6 Tips for Healthy Summertime Skin

For many people, the arrival of summer is like a breath of fresh air. Summertime is a great time for gardening, barbecuing and enjoying sun, sand and water.

While you’re enjoying the weather, don’t forget that your skin has unique needs in the summer. Your skin requires extra care to help it recover from bug bites and exposure to sun, wind and humidity.

Keep your skin cool, calm and protected with these six tips for summertime skin care.

1. Exfoliate daily.

Summertime means sunshine, but it also means humidity and sweat which can cause breakouts.

If you tend to break out in humid weather, exfoliation can deep clean your pores and help keep your skin clear. It also increases circulation and can boost your skin’s natural healing process.

We suggest using a gentle, non-irritating exfoliant like Boom Scrub daily for brighter, clearer skin.

2. Turn down your shower temperature.

A cooler shower is better for your skin and hair because it doesn’t strip them of their natural protective oils. Some studies show cold water can even trigger happy memories. But during the depths of winter, there are few things less appealing than shivering through your morning shower.

Summer is a great time to take advantage of cool-shower benefits. Experts advise that shower water should never rise above warm. If it’s a hot or humid day, we suggest turning the heat down even more.

It’s great for circulation and alertness too. An extra bonus: you’ll save money and energy while you’re at it.

3. Try a lightweight moisturizer.

Summer is a great time to try a lightweight, fast-absorbing moisturizer that won’t leave you feeling greasy or shiny on hot, humid days.

We suggest Boom Gold, our organic facial oil. It absorbs quickly and contains vitamins and antioxidants for soft, luminous skin (and it also smells great).

To use, simply apply a few drops to your fingertips and smooth it all over your face. Gently pat it onto sensitive areas, like your eyelids and the skin under your eyes. It absorbs in moments and will leave your skin soft and hydrated.

4. Protect shaved skin.

If your summer wardrobe includes shorts, capris, swimsuits and sleeveless tops, you may be shaving more than usual. Shaving doesn’t just remove hair—it also removes natural protective oils, leaving your skin dry and vulnerable to irritation.

To guard against razor burn and prevent dry skin, apply a thick, luxurious moisturizer after every shave. Switch out your razor or blades frequently to reduce the risks of microtears and infection.

5. Moisturize before sunscreen.

Remember, your skin is a permeable layer. What goes on your skin often ends up inside as well.

If you can’t stay out of the sun, we suggest using a moisturizer with beeswax like Boom Cotton before applying sunscreen. Boom Cotton is an all-natural moisturizer made with beeswax, which creates a protective barrier between your skin and anything you might put on your skin, like sunscreen.

Its matte finish also minimizes shine, which is helpful for humid days.

6. Moisturize again after sun or wind exposure.

Sun and wind can strip your skin of needed moisture. After a day at the beach, your skin needs extra care to recover.

Apply a moisturizer that’s designed to protect and restore your skin before, during and after your time out in the sun or wind.

We suggest Boom Calm, our all-natural liquid moisturizer with aloe vera, beeswax and essential oils. Boom Calm is designed to bring cool, restorative moisture to your skin after exposure to extreme weather.

You can use Boom Calm anywhere on your body to soothe irritated skin.
